In celebration of Epic Universe’s first anniversary on May 22nd, 2026, the park decided to bring one of their own characters to life and host a Captain Cacao meet and greet within the park.
For context, Captain Cacao is a black bear anthropomorphic animal with a white star over his right eye and a blue and gold colored pirate hat. He’s one of Universal’s own created characters and is the mascot to Epic Universe’s “MoonShip Chocolates and Celestial Sweets” candy store. He leads his ship, The Marshmallow Airship, with his best friend, Maya the Skies, and goes on all sorts of adventures in the skies.
For the park itself, he’s mostly used as promotion material: to sell more merch, sweets, and other goods to people. He doesn’t have his own section of the park with rides and attractions like most other characters of Epic Universe, but is mostly seen in the candy shop in Celestial Park. Despite limited appearances outside his designated area, Epic Universe revealed that the park is officially bringing him to life on May 22 for his own personal meet and greet area to the public for the very first time. This is a shockingly big deal, since it’s very, very rare that Epic does something with their own characters and not something owned by another big company; additionally, Captain Cacao has mostly been pushed to the side of most events for more popular characters. This would be his first outside appearance to the public and the first time he’s been given his own time to shine outside the candy store. The meet and greet also gave Captain Cacao his own personal area, all for him to do the meet and greet, which shows how big of a deal Epic Universe wants this to be.
However, Epic is also going into this with high caution, not wanting this meet and greet to end in disaster; the park set up rules for the meet and greet to make sure it all goes well: First, ticket buying is severely limited per person, making sure no one can buy all these tickets and resell them online for a higher price. Second, they limited space for the guests to avoid overcrowding and chaos when people line up for the meet and greet. Lastly, they hired personal staff for the whole event, with people making sure no one tries to ruin the magic for kids and other people and to keep the meet and greet as happy and cheerful it’s meant to be.
With all this, Epic Universe really seems to be going the extra mile for the meet and greet, wanting to make sure they bring their character to life in the most happy and safe way they can.
