Recently, a select few people got to experience a first look at Pokemon’s new outdoor park, PokePark Kanto. The park has now been officially opened to the public as of February 5th, and many people say it fulfills the Pokemon immersion of being in a real-life Pokemon world, including Pokemon centers to heal Pokemon, shops to buy merchandise and heals, and over 600 different life-sized Pokemon to help fans in the park’s grasps.
The Park is about 26,000 feet square meters, houses over 600 life-sized pokemon, and is split into three different secretions- each made for maximum fun. There’s a town, holding the pokemon centers, shops, and most of the merch, a forest, housing most of the pokemon, and another town at the very end with a gym, called Sledge Town.
The Park starts with the entrance, having a large arch with Pikachu, Eevee, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle standing underneath, accurate to their game height. The forest is about a 500-meter long walk and is full of all of the original 151 Pokemon, along with ‘mons like Bidoof, Applin, and others from various generations. On the opening day of the park, Tatsyua Ohno, the park’s manager, even said, “Some Pokemon are like wild pokemon, while others are Pokemon that belong to trainers or are doing things with the townsfolk. Pokemon that truly feel alive”.
The total cost of the park is just about 150 billion yen total, yet the ticket sales are already skyrocketing, with the total sale of tickets being about 70.36 billion yen, already passing sales of rival US competitors Marvel and Disney; tickets are even expected to be sold out for the next two months! The park is made in Yomiuriland Japan, so it’s required to buy flight tickets to Japan to be able to experience the park from outside the country.
