For people who are unaware of it, Pokemon Pokopia is Pokemon’s latest game as of now. It takes major inspiration from another Nintendo game series, Animal Crossing, and mixes it with Pokemon. In the game, you are set within a post-apocalyptic Kanto region, while you play as a ditto turned into its original pokemon trainer, and you build a place where you and other pokemon can live, if they meet the pokemon’s requirements. You can build houses, use pokemon moves to shape the ground and plant, decorate, and explore new islands while pokemon join you on your way as villagers that you can talk to and sometimes trade and gift items to.
The game itself is highly inspired by said game Animal Crossing- from its cute design, its free mode decorating, and more. Yet, as of today, Pokemon Pokopia has exploded within game stocks, becoming one of Pokemon’s most highest grossing games in the history of the series. Its game price started off as $70, yet now has grown to be $80, as changed on Amazon. Nintendo shops across the US have sold about 2.2 million copies of the game only a week after it was released. It even made $17.9 billion dollars nationwide, becoming one of the highest growing games in history, being the Number 1 game in France, and the Number 2 game in America, all only within 5 weeks of release; and, on the day of its release, it immediately became the Number 1 game in Japan!
This is incredibly shocking, since promotion material for the game was pretty secretive and didn’t reveal too much of the game before release. It was first revealed on a Nintendo direct on September 5th, 2025, showing quite little of the game and only showing moves that Ditto would use, a glimpse of what pokemon you could find, and just one of the other abandoned towns you could work in. The second showing of the game was on national Pokemon Day of February 27th, 2026, where we got to see some exclusive game NPCs, like Professor Tangrowth, Pikachu, and a snorlax covered in Moss- yet not much was given about their lore and such.
Upon the first announcement of Pokemon Pokopia, the community was quite hyped for its release, since many fans have been asking for a Animal Crossing x Pokemon game, and they now officially got word of one being in development. There wasn’t that much backlash of the game for months, with Pokemon actually liking its playstyle, its difference in normal pokemon games, and its more peaceful approach in the world of Pokemon. When the game was released, thousands of people rushed to stores, camping outside game stops just to get it the day of release, and they were not disappointed. Many critics and gamers genuinely loved its cute yet dark past, finding it a nice mix of Animal Crossing cuteness and Pokemon tragic lore. Today, this game is still growing and has become pokemon’s number 2 game of all time, just below the classics Red, Blue and Green, showing that even present artwork can bloom into a masterpiece in the history books.
