Between the days of April 23rd and 27th in San Diego, 27 cruise ship employees were arrested between 8 cruise ships lines. U.S. authorities and border protection arrested the individuals because of an investigation of child exploitation materials. There are numerous reports that some of the individuals were working on a Disney cruise ship. After these reports came out, Disney had a lot to say about these reports.
Disney’s spokesperson first started out by acknowledging what had happened on their ship. Their spokesperson started by saying, “We have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior and fully cooperated with law enforcement.” The spokesperson then stated “While the majority of these individuals were not from our cruise line, those who were are no longer with the company.” The people who were involved in the investigation were terminated and no longer work for the company of Disney. Disney will not disclose how many of the cruise members were from their cruise ship. What is the legal point of view?
27 of the 28 cruise members were arrested due to the handling of CSEM. The people who were involved are being sent back the country’s citizenship. It is reported that the people’s home countries are the Philippines, Indonesia, and Portugal. These people’s visas were all canceled by the people in charge of the investigation. After all this information came out, the public had a lot to say.
One person, Paul B, stated, “I don’t think many of us ever expect to see something like this connected to a Disney cruise, but the reports coming out of San Diego this week have honestly left me stunned. Several crew members from the Disney Magic were taken off the ship by U.S. authorities as part of a wider investigation into child exploitation material, and passengers actually witnessed uniformed crew being escorted away in restraints right there at the terminal. What makes it even more unsettling is that this wasn’t an isolated incident. Disney has acknowledged that some of those arrested were their employees and that they’ve been terminated immediately.” Another person, Luke J, said, “As shocking as this news is, and it certainly does shock, it’s a heartbreaking thing to say, but I’m not even surprised anymore. I may even stop watching the news, as every day, all I’m reading is heartbreak, and incidents like this. I can’t fathom why people like this exist, how can anyone even act in such appalling manners. If they are guilty, I hope they get everything that comes at them.”
Other mentions are that Disney is a family and child focused band and company. Many people are completely shocked about Disney letting something like this happen. The other opinion is that it is completely disturbing and disgusting to find out about companies like Disney.
