On April 25, 2026, President Donald Trump and Melania Trump were invited to an annual dinner to celebrate journalism. This event took place in the Washington Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom. After this shooting, there were no serious injuries that occurred.
2,000 journalists, government officials, and other newsmakers were a part of this event. The gunman was identified as a 31-year-old named Cole Tomas Allen. Allen was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives when he rushed a security checkpoint and ran toward the ballroom where the black-tie dinner was being held.
According to nbcnews.com, “He exchanged gunfire with law enforcement and was tackled to the ground.” The only injury was to a Secret Service agent, who took a bullet to his vest and survived.
