A new kids museum opened recently in San Diego, it has lots of hands-on activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. This includes new upgrades and renovations for the best experience for all to have a wonderful experience.
This museum had an open house with about 900 visitors. It was an unpredicted chance for art-making at the museum, with kids using the pottery wheels in the new ceramics studio painting and the versatile studio while attending workshops in the education commons. Also, the large artopia studio is a flexible space, which can accommodate 200 people in a giant painting class or be split so four smaller classes could run simultaneously on fiber acts, sculpture, water color, painting and more.
Previously, the museum’s popular innovators lab could only accommodate 10 to 15 people per class, even hosting four workshops per day every day of the week. The demand outstripped the museum’s space with sports, which sold out within hours and a long waitlist. Wyrick said, “We could never accommodate the number of young people who wanted to have access to that art-making process. We just didn’t have the space.” Wyrick also added, “She credits Elizebeth Yanghellewell with immediately seeing the need to expand the museum’s studios when she became CEO.”
Wyrick said, “As a contemporary art space, we really want to foreground the art- making process and give kids and people of all ages as much access to art-making themselves as possible. We want people of all backgrounds to really have this space as a creative resource.” This offers a great opportunity for everyone to experience and try various things in the museum.
