Three brothers, ages six, eight, and nine, died after falling in a frozen pond near Bonhamm Texas. The boy’s mother said she hurried and tried to pull her sons out of the water, but the ice kept breaking under them. Cheyenne Hangmen, the mother of the children, said, “They were screaming, telling me to help them. And I watched all of them struggle, struggle to stay above the water. I watched them fight.” The youngest boy fell through the pond first, trying to “ice skate.”
After that, his two older brothers jumped in after, trying to rescue their brother. The mother said that her daughter went running and said “they’re drowning.” Hangman said, “When I saw them, they were struggling, and I knew their bodies were already in shock.” She said, “the water was freezing cold.”
She described her sons as full of personality. For example Ej, who dreamed of becoming a football star, Howard, who liked making people laugh, and Kaleb, who loved to dance and sing. This recent winter storm came as a deadly one, killing more than 20 people and also leaving several thousands of people without power. Please continue to be safe in inclement weather conditions such as these.
