On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, congresswoman Ilhan Omar was attacked, as an audience member used a syringe to spray liquid at Omar. After this event, Omar was questioned by many people about what happened and her condition. According to CNN.com, all she said was, “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so the small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work.” The person guilty of this was 55 year old Anthony Kazmierczak; there is no further explanation on who this person is.
Anthony was tackled to the ground after he tried to run away when he sprayed Omar. Anthony Kazmierczak was charged with third degree assault and is being held in custody. According to the local sheriff’s office, during her speaking event, Omar called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Ilhan Omar has recently targeted the president’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota, during which two US citizens have been shot dead.
The whole point on why Anthony Kazmierczak attacked Ilhan Omar was because Omar was speaking up on her opinion about ICE, and Anthony simply disagreed, taking action. According to the New York Times, Anthony recently told an audience in Iowa that immigrants to the US, “Have to show that they can love our country and be proud – not like Ilhan Omar,” and, according to federal complaint, Kazmierczak told authorities he once said of Omar, “Somebody should kill that b****.” The hatred that Anthony has on Omar is more than what people expected. The substance was later determined to be apple cider, vinegar, and water. Before Anthony sprayed the substance, he yelled, “you must resign!”
In wake of the attack on Omar, the president was asked by ABC news whether he had seen the footage of the incident, and responded that he had not.
