Over the weekend, Trump was insisting on acquiring Greenland for national security reasons and has not ruled out using military force.
NATO, a large military and political alliance of 32 countries from North America and Europe. is now fighting to a standstill because of the Greenland and Trump threats. If Trump starts to fight Greenland. America would no longer be within NATO, and an even bigger war would break out. German Chancellor Merz called on Europe to renew its faith in NATO, positioning the alliance as crucial for the continent and the US to navigate a new world order increasingly dictated by force. “The old world is unraveling at a breathtaking pace,” he said in a speech Thursday at Davos. Trump has said if he does get Greenland, NATO would become far more formidable and effective in his hands.
On January 14, Denmark and Greenland’s foreign officials came to meet with JD Vance, the vice president, and Marco Rubio, secretary of state, at the White House, but. from what the public knows, both parties were not able to come to an agreement. “We didn’t manage to change the American’s position,” said the officials. “It’s clear the president has the wish of conquering over Greenland, but we made it clear that it’s not in the interest of the kingdom,” Danish foreign minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said at a news conference.
Trump has always had an eye for Greenland, like in his 1st term, saying he had a desire to purchase Greenland yet being turned down and described as “absurd” by the Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen. One of the main reasons Trump wants Greenland is for the oil under the icy surface; with even more oil under its control, America could start to control their overflowing debt. The other reason reason is the area it’s in; Trump thinks China or Russia would attack at any given time, from what happened in the past with China or now with Russia and Ukraine.
The public doesn’t want Trump to have Greenland because they know he will try to harm the wildlife there, so many have started protesting about the news. Denmark has made it very clear that Trump isn’t getting Greenland, but Trump still threatens to use military force. Trump has done a lot of things over the week, like getting Maduro, the ICE occupation in Minnesota, and, now, wanting Greenland.
