The Pokemon Company declared to be taking legal action against the new rising game, PalWorld. The game ‘PalWorld’ is an open world adventure game where you battle and collect monsters called Pals and also use guns and weapons. In Pokemon, it’s more kid friendly, using Pokeballs and monsters called Pokemon. Yet the company declared to be filing a lawsuit against PalWorld for its Pals being too similar to some pokemon.
Some pokemon designs are entirely inspired by everyday things, like ice cream, a garbage bag, even pets like cats or dogs, but PalWorld is said to be taking Pokemon’s designs and writing them off as their own. Many people call PalWorld ‘Pokemon with guns’ since the game, heavily inspired by Pokemon, uses guns as its main weapons to kill other players and Pals for food. Some pals, like Anubis or Fenglope seem like ripoffs of pokemon like Lucario or Cobalion. The Lawsuit is for Pokemon to use its patent against PalWorld, due to the catching mechanic of the game being too similar to Pokemon, but PalWorld is saying they had no idea of the patent they were supposedly copying.
Some people say “As a life long Pokemon fan, I’m used to seeing similar ‘monster hunting’ games, and this one’s no different,” while others say “Making a game ‘inspired by pokemon’ is one, but full on copying them is another.” Some people are torn between the two, some saying the game is clearly copying, while others say the game is original and just inspired by Pokemon. As of now, no records of Pokemon and Palworld have been released of them being at court, so it seems like, right now, the lawsuit is still being discussed between them. So now, PalWorld might have to close its door, or prove to themselves that they aren’t copying Pokemon.
