Recently a Netflix true crime documentary had gone viral; it is about a 2022 case where a girl named Mackenzie Shrilla had allegedly killed her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend, Davion Flanagan, in a car accident.
The two had begun dating when she was 13-years old and Dominic was 16 years old. The relationship between Mackenzie and Dominic lasted about four years; it was perceived as happy and strong from their family and friends. However, it was later on revealed that the relationship is very toxic and volatile. It showed that Mackenzie was very possessive over Dominic and wanted to control everything he would do. Family and friends had mentioned that Dominic had been trying to break up with her multiple times. Text messages and witness testimony had further supported that the couple had a highly tumultuous relationship and that him trying to leave her caused many arguments between the two.
In the case, it was mentioned that Mackenzie had threatened Dominic multiple times. He had proof that she had destroyed things and was saying threats verbally. Weeks before the crash, one of the threats to Dominic was that she would crash the car while he was a passenger.
On the day the crash happened, Mackenzie had allegedly sent some disturbing messages to Dominic that said, “I’m gonna kill someone, I just wanna bang my head on the wall till I’m dead.” Another message stated, “I f******* hate myself….Now I’m at your f****** house breaking down on your door.”
On the day of the crash, she had picked up the two to go to a friend’s house and left around 5:30 am. In the tracking data, it showed Davion’s activity on his phone just one minute before impact while Macheinze was rapidly accelerated to 100 mph at 5:36 am. The car crashed into a brick wall. At 6:20 am, a passerby stumbled across the mangled wreckage and called 911. Both Dominic and Davion tragically lost their innocent lives. She said in court, “To the families of Dom and Davion, I am so deeply sorry. I hope one day you can see I would never let this happen or do it on purpose.. I loved both Dom and Davion.” However she also said, “Can’t you just take away my license for 10 years?” In the trial, Mackenzie was found guilty and allegedly sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
