What happened to Miss Finland?
Dzafce, 22, posted a picture of her pulling her eyes with the caption “Kiinala insenkaa,” which translates to “eating with a chinese person.” What she said had “actually” happened was, “she was suffering a “severe headache” and was rubbing her temples” (Silive Drafce).
The backlash and comments shortly came flooding in as soon as the post was uploaded, with people saying things like “She needs some proper education” (Joeydagirl), “Shame on you” (yuu_kkkii), and some even commenting on her appearance, such as, “Too much botox” (jen.lul6), and “All i see is her mocking herself nothing more” (isn’t8._.carly). There was an official statement from the Miss Finland organization declaring that it doesn’t accept racism or discrimination. This post made Miss Finland get her crown taken away.
The title of Miss Finland represents Finnish values, such as, “Respect, equality, and human dignity.” The now-ex Miss Finland apologized, saying, “I, Sarah Dzafce, will no longer continue as Miss Finland. Good Day and thank you. I want to start by saying my deepest apologies to everyone I have offended or hurt. Especially to the Asian community. With this action I want to show how seriously we take this situation and that racism is not acceptable in any way. Goodluck to the new Miss Finland. Thank you.”
