The shooting happened in 2018, February 14, at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, Florida. 17 people were killed, including Mia’s best friend, and 18 people were injured. Zoe said, “I’m just very angry. I think I’m angry that I’ve had to go through this more than once, that now my classmates and my friends also have this experience in common with me.”
Mia said, “Never in my mind would it occur that there was actually a shooting until hundreds of texts started rolling in from everyone.” She continues, “when I was shot at my old school, they knew exactly where the shooter was within the hour. I didn’t have to deal with this fear for hours on end, of where this person is, could they be doing it again?”

No one prepares you for this as a parent and I’m certain nobody prepares you for this as a student or faculty.” She concluded by saying that Brown University will need a lot of love and healing.
Out of the nine people who were injured in the shooting at Brown, one was in critical condition, six were in critical but stable condition, and two were stabilized. However, their identities are not yet public.
