This Halloween, celebrities put their all into their costumes, but some took it way too far.
One bad costume this year was Julia Foxe’s decision to dress as Jackie Kennedy after JFK’s assassination- blood-soaked pink suit and all. Obviously, this sparked a lot of controversy, and many users online claim it was disrespectful and disgraceful that she thought it would ever be okay to dress up as such a tragedy. However, after issuing a statement on Instagram, many took back their hateful opinions.
“I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement,” she said. “When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’ The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history.
“Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation. Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery,” Fox continued. “It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O ♥️.”
Another “distasteful” costume this Halloween was someone in a bloody white T-shirt with a hole in the neck, attempting to appear as Charlie Kirk after his assassination. While some may have found this funny, others did not, and it was viewed as very disrespectful to Kirk’s family. Across the internet, people claim this adds to the gun violence issue and makes it seem like gun violence is acceptable.
Some lighthearted costumes were worn this year, including Demi Lovato dressing up as a popularly memed photo of herself, “poot,” and Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and North West dressing up as the viral TikTokers Jay Guapo, Pink Cardigan, and Chrissy G.
A fan favorite was Lizzo dressing up as a Chili’s mozzarella stick, even captioning her Instagram post with “Halloween is so cheesy.”
Overall, this Halloween was not only filled with a lot of silly and cute costumes, but also some disturbing and controversial ones that will be talked about for many Halloweens to come.
