A jury awarded a 51-year old New Jersey man $6.5 million after he was seriously injured when his SUV was struck by another vehicle as he waited in line for gas.
Many deadly accidents occur in New Jersey and all over the globe, and some victims never get justice. It’s so important to learn about driver safety and the risks people face when driving recklessly, so you can avoid this being you. A Somerset County jury ruled in favor of Marc A. Ferrara on Friday after a two-week trial. Jurors deliberated for about an hour and forty minutes, according to his attorney Nicholas J. Leonardis of the Edison firm Stathis and Leonardis.
Another painful incident occurred on the tracks of the New Jersey transit line. Authorities have identified the man struck and killed by a NJ transit train in New Brunswick as 33-year-old Mercer county resident Babatunde K. Okesola; he was hit at about 2:15 p.m. by a Trenton-bound Northeast corridor train. The train, which had 557 passengers aboard, was concealed at New Brunswick. As a result, trains were delayed for several hours.
Apart from railroads, traffic on the NJ turnpike gets crazy and backed up for hours. This causes a major headache for commuters, especially after a serious crash sent at least six people to the hospital early one morning. Another example was when a woman was killed when two cars crashed into a laundromat in Newark, NJ. Officials said the victim was sitting at a table near the front of the Ivy Hill Laundromat at a strip mall when a pickup truck crashed into a parked SUV, sending both vehicles into the storefront.
These incidents go to show that every driver, no matter how long they’ve been driving for, should know how to drive responsibly. When you’re behind the wheel of a car, whether alone or with passengers, driving safely should always be your top concern. People are more distracted than ever with music blasting and phones constantly being in your hands, so it’s crucial to know the basics of safe driving and practice them every time you’re on the road.
Ignoring distractions while driving and maintaining focus on the road is key to driving safely. In order to stay focused while driving you should keep 100% of your attention on driving at all times, you shouldn’t multitask, you shouldn’t use your phone or any other electronic device while driving, and you should slow down; speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.
