On April 12th, 2026, Peter Magyar and Viktor Orban ran against each other in the Hungary election. Magyar won 138 seats in a landslide victory, ending Orban’s 16 years of power.
This election has made a pretty big impact on Hungary itself, both positively and negatively. For one, it gave relief to leaders in Europe because they feel everything is in better hands. This was also known to be a very clear election, which was good for the people’s lives in Hungary.
However, Donald Trump is in some danger. According to a CNN article, “It will come though as a blow for US President Donald Trump, who endorsed the nationalist, pro Russian leader during the campaign.” Also, Magyar is trying to reverse changes that Orban has made, which can cause some short-term chaos.
There have also been many different aspects of the campaigns that make up the election. First, Magyar is campaigning on corruption and domestic issues. He also wants to fix the bad economy and bad healthcare.
On Orban’s side, he doesn’t have much support. Since that’s the case, he made a speech saying that he won’t give up.
As of today, Orban is still trying to get his spot back. Even though Magyar is trying to make good changes, Orban doesn’t like them. Hungary will soon be going through many changes as time goes on. As there was a big majority, Magyar will most likely stay elected, putting Trump into a bad place. In one of his speeches, Magyar said, “My fellow countrymen, Hungarians, we did it. Tisza and Hungary have won this election. not just by a little, but by a lot-in fact, by a great deal.”
