On March 16th, 2026, Pakistan launched an airstrike on Kabul’s rehab center, which was used to increase military attacks. The center is called the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital and holds 2,000 beds for their patients. 400 people were killed during this attack, and Pakistan and Afghanistan have had many similar clashes over the years.
Over 100 people were injured as everyone was hearing loud explosions outside of the center. Pakistan had denied the strike and claimed Afghanistan attacked first. According to a BBC article, Pakistan said, “it has precisely targeted military installations and terrorist support infrastructure.”
Minutes after the attack, families were crowded outside while watching at least 30 bodies being carried on stretchers. All items in the rehab center were destroyed. Days after, hundreds of people gathered around a huge book of everyone that was injured or died in the strike in hopes that it wasn’t a friend or family member. Before there was a rehab center, that spot was known to be a drug hangout which could be linked.
There had also been assumptions that Afghanistan was keeping militants in their country in order to attack Pakistan, which led to this most recent attack. This was known to be one of the deadliest strikes for Pakistan, killing hundreds of people living there. As of today, fighting and tension continues. While Pakistan is trying to recover from the attack, they are also planning to strike back. They have already started conducting airstrikes and having more security for protection. Pakistan is also trying to link with other countries for help. This tension between both countries has grown into more conflict which might lead into a more serious war. Who will win this never-ending battle?
