Despite Israel killing another Iranian leader, Ali Larijani, experts say this doesn’t mean that they won the war. Larijani was the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Some background information on Ali Larijani includes that he was a commander in the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps; this helped him climb his way up in political status. Larijani was also born in Najaf, Iraq, to a prominent Shiite cherical family. That means that Larijani has been a part of a very powerful and political family from the beginning. Another thing is that he was a speaker of Iranian Parliament (Majili’s) for a total of three terms from 2008 to 2026. Ali was also a close advisor to Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, bridging the gap between conservative factions. He was also Chief Nuclear Negotiator, known for tough negotiating style and defending Iran’s nuclear program as parliamentary technology.
Throughout the years, Larijani has been a defiant voice; this didn’t change when the war and many conflicts began. In a quote from CNN, he says, “Do not fear your empty threats; even those greater than you have failed to erase them… so beware lest you be the ones who disappear.” This was said in response to Donald Trump, openly disapproving of his motives.
One of the many jobs for Larijani was to find some common ground with Washington and Iran. Another quote from CNN is, “Israel seems to be turning its attention to targeting those that could push for a political solution to overcome Iran’s troubles at home and abroad.” This is relevant because Larijani played such a large role for Iran, and now that he was assassinated, Israel is starting to go rampant. They assassinated Ali Larijani because they needed to get rid of the key strategist, which happened to be Larijani. Without him, the loss would send Iran into a structural chaos.
Due to the ongoing conflicts between Iran and Israel, the ships are unable to cross the vital choke point for oil and many other goods. “Iran has successfully moved its conflict onto the global level. All Iran has to do now is survive and keep upping the cost.” This is a problem for countries around the world because if the ships cannot get across to get the oil and other trading goods, the pricing will be a lot higher for the expensive trading goods. Globally, everyone’s pricing is being raised because Iran is very connected to goods. All in all, the death of Ali Larijani has caused many global issues across the world for multiple countries.
