The U.S. sent ICE agents to the Winter Olympics; the same U.S. Immigration whose officers have already, on multiple occasions, been involved in fatal shootings and various deaths across America, many of which are highly debated for their ethics. Some in Minneapolis have said, “It is sending agents to help support American security operations during the Winter Olympics that start in Italy.” The U.S. confirmation that a branch of Immigration and Customs Enforcements would play a role in the Olympics came from several U.S. departments. 

Now, reports have prompted, alarmed, and angered Italy. The Milan Mayor, Beppe Sala, stated, “This is Militia that kills…. Of course they’re not welcome in Milan.” The Foreigner Minister Antonio Tajani had told reporters, “It’s not like the [Nazi] SS are coming,” while speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony marking Holocaust Remembrance Day by three jewish Italians who survived the Holocaust. The DHS stressed that, “All security operations at the Olympics are directed and managed exclusively by Italian authorities.” However, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Tuesday, “No ICE agents would appear on Italian streets, only officers from the police.” Only the Carabinier military police and the Guardian Di Fananza Financial Authority are allowed to participate during the Olympics.

The Milan Mayor Beppe Sala and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani are both doing everything and anything to make sure that ICE will not be present during the Winter Olympics.
