Kim Keon-Hee, wife of South Korea’s ousted president, was jailed for corruption; meanwhile ,Kim’s husband is also awaiting trial for the death penalty or life imprisonment. “The wife of South Korea’s ousted president, Yoon Suk Yoel, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for corruption, as her husband awaits a verdict on high stakes rebellion charges that could result in death penalty or life imprisonment,” says reports from The Guardian.
The arrest of Kim Keon-Hee was a shock around South Korea and around the world. As much of a shock as this was, it was not surprising that she fell into the same criminal life as her husband. “The 20 month sentence imposed on Kim was a surprise after independent counsel Min Joong-Ki called for a 15 year prison term on three charges including stock price manipulation, political funding, law violations, and accepting bribes,” reports The Guardian.
Some say that what Kim did was extremely unprofessional in a political life. Taking bribes, making multiple law violations, and political funding and stock price manipulation is highly illegal and wrong for many reasons. Kim Keon-Hee is serving her time in prison alongside her husband, who will have a much harsher sentence.
