Ukraine and Russia have been at war since February of 2022. In an attempt to protect themselves from Russia’s attacks, Ukraine is getting over 100 French Made Rafale Fighter jets. The Ukraine president mentioned that this is something very historic for Ukraine, especially with them at war. All of the jets will be delivered by the year 2035, and there’s also drones that are being delivered this year. 

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is very strategic with his plans and cares about the people of Ukraine. “This is a strategic agreement which will last for 10 years starting from the next year,” Zelensky said at a joint briefing with Macron on Monday, according to a BBC article . Ukraine will also get “very strong French radars,” eight air defence systems, and other advanced weaponry, he added. Zelensky stressed that using such advanced systems “means protecting someone’s life… this is very important.” Since Russia has increased the amount of protection and attacks that they have over Ukraine, they needed to step up in order to protect everyone.

This war has affected the people of Ukraine by a lot, which is why they are increasing their protection against Russia. The drone and missile attacks from Russia have increased, and dozens of people have been killed in Ukraine. According to the same BBC article, Macron, alongside Zelensky, said: “We’re planning Rafales, 100 Rafales – that’s huge. That’s what’s needed for the regeneration of the Ukrainian military.” Ukraine is working on strengthening their military in hope that it will give Russia a different view on them.

Although the jets aren’t going to be fully delivered until a couple of years, Ukraine is doing everything they can to keep everyone safe and protected. This will take a while because they need to increase their economy, as well as get over 100 pilots that are experienced to fly these fighter jets. It is expected for this war to go on for multiple years, mostly because of the territorial control that Russia wants over Ukraine.

The reason for Ukraine getting these fighter jets is to protect itself from Russia’s attacks. The French are siding with Ukraine making a deal with them that gave Ukraine 100 fighter jets, air defense systems, and other equipment for the military.

Whether it’s more drones or any type of surveillance over Russia, it will increase their chances of being protected.
