A young boy, not yet over the age of 18, has been killed by Nepal military forces.
Over the week, a lot has happened in Nepal: over 19 people died and 100 were injured fighting with their security forces. Thousands of people had started storming over the streets of Nepal on Monday morning. The reason why is because of a social media ban happening; over 26 major social media apps have been banned, including Snapchat, Facebook and YouTube. The reason for this ban is because companies failed to comply with government registration rules.
The protest started in Maitighar, a neighborhood in Kathmandu, mostly consisting of busy roads due to it being such an iconic landmark. Due to this protest, a new curfew rule has been put in place after protesters entered the parliament building in the capital, fighting against the police. After getting into the parliament building, protesters set it on fire. Over 900 inmates have managed to escape from 2 prisons due to the protest. The prime minister had left the country without dealing with the protest; knowing this, the protesters set his house on fire.
Without a prime minister, the young people of Nepal have taken to discord to get a new prime minister; Sushila Karki became Nepal’s new prime minister, as well as Nepal’s first woman prime minister. Sushila was a member of the former government who held a reputation for being incorruptible. This new prime minister position is only in place for a short time: until the proper elections take place on March 5th.
After the protest stopped, the people of Nepal took to the streets to clean up the mess they made during the protest. The new prime minister is looking to do right with the families that lost people in the protest. All over the world, a lot of people are talking about what happened and many are against the old prime minister and the way they tried to stop anyone from getting any type of social media; many are saying it’s not fair and everyone show have free will and it’s unfair to the people of Nepal.
