According to Coach Knitowski, within the last five years he’s been coaching, this is the first double digit win the girls basketball team has gotten for the season. The Lady Mustangs have won 11 games, passing the 10 win mark. Before the end of the season, the team and coaches hope to improve communication on the floor, team chemistry, skills, and finish the season off with confidence.

The coaches and the team all agree that the season was satisfactory because of the things they accomplished, and the energy that came up. Ending strong is the goal, so that the energy will move into next year and inspire the incoming players.

Over the course of the basketball season, the team has achieved many of their goals. The team has made it into states, winning two conference games, improving their overall winning percentage.

On Monday, February 26th, the team participated in their first round in states, According to the coaches, the record does and does not reflect the team. They worked hard and got the record, but there is always room for improvement. However, the schedule was tough because of the many big schools they had to play, which were tough competition compared to schools our size. Even with the mixed feelings, the girls basketball team still felt this season has been an amazing one for the team and a strong foundation for what future teams can aspire. They also wish the seniors much success in the future basketball endeavors.

The hopes for next basketball season are high. The coaches are looking forward to a team with many seniors, players with varsity experience, player growth, and seeing who will fill the leadership roles. The players are looking forward to the team progress, how everyone improves, and team chemistry.

When talking about weaknesses, getting off to a fast start, passing and traveling, and a lack of communication on the floor at times are key points. But their size makes it easier to get rebounds, guard play keeps things under control, a good shooter, never giving up, playing hard until the end, coming together, and the blending of strengths makes for a great team.
Next year, the coaches and team want to beat North Plainfield, South Hunterdon, Dunellen, and teams in our conference and section. Each player on the team comes to practice for a reason. Knowing that the basketball team is more of a family where everyone is supported and knowing that their efforts contribute to the winnings and building the program day by day contributes to the drive. The season may be over but the spirit is still at a high.
