Many families are planning what to do for spring break. Most of them are heading to traditional vacation spots. Here are one of the most popular destinations in Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando.
If you’re willing to go out of the US, watch out for International flight bookings up 20% and hotels are up 37% in March and April 2024 compared to last year, according to AAA. London, Paris, Rome, Dublin, and Amsterdam are the most popular destinations. If you are willing to go on a cruise ship, be careful, since cruises up 28% in March and April 2024 compared to last year.Miami and Fort Lauderdale are expected to be popular for people getting on cruises.
Despite this, Miami does not want people visiting during spring break. They’ve made some drastic changes to deter people from visiting: changing parking fees from $30 on the weekend to $100 from March 7-10 and March 14-17. Even rentals for Airbnb and Vrbo have changed their fees for the first violation from $1,000 per day to $5,000 per day (or repeated violations). Cruises departing from Florida increased 60% during this time, but Florida isn’t the only hotspot.
Orlando is expected to be the top destination for spring break, according to AAA, which analyzed travel booking data. Travel to Orlando is up 60%, Punta Cana is up 60%, Mexico City is up 55% and Cancun is up 30%, according to Expedia. However, the U.S. is warning against traveling to Mexico during this time. “Crime, including violent crime, can occur anywhere in Mexico, including in popular tourist destinations,” the U.S. Mission to Mexico said in a news release last week.
