It’s the month of October, where it is well known for it’s holiday, Halloween. It is a great time to be reading such petrifying books with the eerie holiday upon us. Below are some books that might even leave you sleeping with a nightlight.

Physco: Written by: Robert Bloch

This book tells the story of Norman Bates, a caretaker at an isolated motel who struggles under his domineering mother and becomes involved in a number of series murders.

Carrie: Written by: Stephen King

Carrie is constantly abused at home by her very religious mother and at school by her classmates. In high school she realizes she has telekinetic powers. She is invited to prom by a boy named Tommy Ross. At prom, she is the victim of a deadly prank and uses her telekinetic powers to kill everyone at prom and everyone in her way. At home, Carrie’s mom stabs her, but before she dies, she manages to kill her mother.

Intercepts: Written by: T.J. Payne

This story is based on a horrible government experiment, starring a man named Joe who works at a facility that does experimental tests on humans to unlock hidden abilities in the human mind, but the experiments go horribly wrong and the test subjects start to go insane.

The Shining: Written by: Stephen King

Signing a contract, Jack Torrance, a normal writer and teacher, who agrees to take care of a hotel which has a long, violent past that puts everyone in the hotel in a nervous situation. While Jack slowly gets more violent and angry of his life, his son, Danny, tries to use a special talent, the “Shining,” to inform the people outside about what is going on in the hotel.

The Hunger:Written by: Alma Katsu

Having to travel to the west for weeks, a group of pioneers end up at a two way crossroad. Their leader, George Donner had made the choice of which road would be best, not to mention that both lead to the same destination. They have to face whatever consequence there is with the road that is chosen. The harsh weather they go through, a hot blazing desert that then steers to cold biting winds in which freezes the cattle where they stand. This group struggles to stay sane and survive the difficulties of traveling but halfway through, the groups people turn to be deadly with each other.
