Botham Jean’s Killer Sentenced
October 11, 2019
In September of 2018, a Dallas officer, Amber Guyer, had stepped into an apartment she allegedly believed was her own. Instead, it was her neighbor Botham Jean’s apartment, where Guyer had thought he was an intruder and allegedly shot him. Botham Jean was in his own apartment, and unarmed.
Much controversy had been sparked since this occurrence considering there were obvious signs that she was on the wrong floor and she had opened the wrong door. Jean’s family worried that Botham’s murder would be treated like the many cases where police officers were let off the hook for unlawfully killing black men and women. Since Jean’s death, Amber Guyer has recently been convicted of second degree murder and is due to serve 10 years in a maximum-security prison in Gatesville, Texas. After the verdict was announced, Allison Jean, Botham Jean’s mother, had stood up and prayed, “God is good!”
