THE END GAME

WARNING: ENDGAME SPOILERS

With over 20 interconnected movies released over the span of a decade, End Game had multiple opportunities to make tons of references and callbacks to a wide rage of characters and plot twists throughout the Marvel era. While many significant lines of dialog were easy to spot such as, “I can do this all day” and “I am Iron Man” there were still plenty of other references to the prior movies that might have been easily missed.

With many direct references from previous movies, some happen to be less obvious than others. For example, just before the heroes all join in to help Captain America to fight Thanos and his army towards the end of the film, you can hear Falcon get on the radio to tell his partner, Captain America  “On your left.” This is a call back from the film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier when Captain America kept lapping Falcon when they first met as competing soldiers at the beginning of the movie.

Although there might be plenty of heartwarming throwbacks and references, one of the most endearing and heartbreaking call backs was when Happy Hogan chats with Morgan (Iron Man’s daughter) at Iron Man’s funeral. He simply asks her if she’s hungry and wants anything to eat and she replies “a cheeseburger.” This is a reference back to a scene to the early Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies when Iron Man asks for two things, one a press conference and two a cheeseburger. This was said after Iron man was picked up from a rescue from the 10 rings in the Iron Man from Marvel.

In this movie, Avengers: Endgame, it is almost impossible to pick up on and see every single character’s appearance let alone understand these inter-tangled messages. Not only did everything build up to this last Marvel movie, but even the reference of the phrase “Endgame” appeared in past films and Marvel affiliated things. Such as being in comic books and highly talked about with the character, Dr. Strange. This was a very highly anticipated movie and well produced film in which every Marvel fan was left in tears up until the last line. Long Live Iron Man.
