All you need to know about Forensics Club
When many people hear the term, forensics, they may think of scientists in crime investigation. However, at Manville High School, forensics is a popular club that can be defined as the activity of presenting evidence and argument to find the truth. The forensics club focuses on finding or uncovering the truth through speech and debate.
Firstly, many may wonder when did the forensics club start and who even created it? It was formed nine years ago in 2009 by Mr. Horton and Mr. Forte. They felt it would make a great club because they were already implementing the concept of debate in their own classrooms.
Secondly, one may ask why should people join forensics? Forensics increases work ethic, lifelong learning, research skills, and leadership skills. These skills are necessary in the 21st century and will be useful inside and outside of school.
Thirdly, many wonder what do students do in forensics? In the club, you must either choose one of two events: speech or debate. Debate is the use of argumentation to uncover the truth, while speech is the search of truth through the interpretation of a literary piece. After choosing a category, you can choose between many different events to enter in.
Lastly and possibly the most important question one may ask is, when does the forensics club meet? Forensics meets usually on Mondays and Thursdays after school in room 5. Come out and experience what the forensics club is all about while you banter with peers and discover new ideas, while acquiring life enhancing skills!
