The Spanish league had one of the most action packed weekends last week, with Spanish giants both losing vital matches that could lead to their victories, more intense games and really questionable calls that lead to much dispute throughout fan bases.
Barca having a three point lead on Real Madrid took on their recent game with the expectation to take a 6-point lead ahead of the La Liga Titans; Real Betis brought a stunning game to Barca, tying Barcelona’s early goal in the 17th minute. Barcelona only gained one point from the match; understandably frustrated, the Barca stars, along with the Barca Captain Raphiña, scolded the officials of the game for supposed “bad calls.” The Betis side, having a sensational season, celebrated the tie against the Red and Blue Spanish giants. The Barcelona team stands at 67 points currently, only being 4 points ahead of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid, standing only at 63 points in second place, missed out on the vital opportunity to move up to 66 points in the league. Real Madrid’s disaster performance against Valencia was a shocking one; starting professional player David Alaba unfortunately hit two own goals that gave Valencia a 2-1 victory against the surprisingly terrible Real Madrid. Carlo Ancellotti commented on the terrible performance of the professional center back that scored two own goals, calling it “bad luck.” Vinicius had an inexcusable opportunity to score and he missed it, not allowing the Real Madrid team to take the lead into the game.
Atletico Madrid, the third giant in the Spanish league, stands at 60 points, silently but reassuringly climbing their way up to the top, but having a trip against La Liga Leader, Barcelona, in a match that ended in a 4-2 loss where Barca completely out-did the Diego Simone side. Atletico Madrid’s next game is against Las Palmas on April 19th at 3:00pm, and could tie them to 2nd place team Real Madrid in points, but, by Goal Differential, Athletico remain in 3rd place. Considering Diego Simone’s system is a defensive unit team, it connects as to why the Spanish team haven’t scored the sufficient goals to surpass Real Madrid or Barcelona in the league.
The Spanish league is getting more tense, as the season comes to an end and the amount of games begins to shorten, teams rush to not get relegated, teams rush to qualify for contests, and teams fight to remove that underdog title that hovers above them.
