So, Warner Bros. started production on a new DC game that had Wonder Woman as the lead. They released a trailer for it back in 2023 and started production in 2021. But they stopped production after the failure of multiple games they made in the past years. These games were Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Multi Versus. They also shut down three companies:
Monolith Productions (Wonder Woman developer).
Player First Games (Multi Versus Developer)
Warner Bros. Games San Diego
They closed the companies above as a strategic plan that will ensure better games in the future, and the Wonder Woman game didn’t fit into their priorities; so, they cancelled it mid production, causing many workers to lose their jobs. And because of the major flops of last year, the company lost 300 million dollars.
The company plans on making big changes in game development to produce better games after learning their lessons from the past and are wanting to make games based on the DCU movies, so that might mean we will be getting Super Man games, as well as The Flash games.
Multi Versus Failed because it was put into the gaming scene, where its main competitor is the Super Smash Bros. series, and was titled the first game to die twice; but why did this happen? It happened because the monetization was filled with predatory company decisions and the game was filled with battle passes and skins that were all pretty expensive and did not expand the already dry gameplay loop. And people stopped playing just weeks after the initial release in 2022. This decline in the player base led them to shutting it down completely. Then they brought it back in 2024, so people decided to check it out again, but, unfortunately, it was even worse, and it included a grindy process to unlock characters- this was a sad realization to many people, as a game with a lot of potential came up short in the end, and now Player First Pames is shutting it down for good.
