With the exciting MLB baseball season coming sooner than later, people are already talking about the fantasy side of the sport. With big first round names like Shohei Ohtani, Bobby Witt Jr., Aaron Judge, Jose Ramirez and more, people are anticipating them to play great and be injury free. People already have eyes on athletes with injuries. This draft year is a great one, with some underdogs having their name talked about and big college names, of course.
This Thursday, Bobby Miller was hit by a ball coming back at him in the head, and was indeed removed from Thursday’s Cactus League against the Cubs, because of this his fantasy point has gone down and is on concussion watch. Eury Perez has injured his elbow Miami Marlins has put him on a 60 day injured list. The Marlins are in a tough place with needing to open a roster spot after claiming Seth Martinez off waivers. Eury is hoping to return midseason.
Shohei Ohtani, the man everyone is talking about, has said his plan on Thursday is to implement the windup when he’s pitching in games this season. This doesn’t have much of an impact on his fantasy points; he’s still what everyone is hoping to get. Ohtani is continuing to slowly work his way back to full strength on the mound. He had not been utilizing his full windup to start in his bullpen sessions, but he’ll be adding it on Thursday.
Nick Madrigal has been diagnosed with a fracture in his shoulder. The 27-year-old is expected to be out “a while” while he recovers. Madrigal was expected to battle for a spot with the Mets, and that job could go to someone like Jared Young while Madrigal recovers. Someone who you’ll think he’s top 15 but he’s not, with everything going around with the Paul Skenes one of one card going for an absurd amount of money.
This coming season there are so many underdogs and players getting overlooked. Some players include Bryce Harper, Brent Rooker, Marcell Ozuna, and more. These great players are being overlooked because of how fantasy works. It’s about the plays they make or how many hits they get. Yes Bryce Harper hits really good and has an avg of .285, which is better than most, but him being a first basemen won’t earn many points.
Brent Rooker has been doing great. He’s going to be in his 5th year in the MLB with his four teams. Last year was his best year by far with his at bats being 546, his avg being .293, but, yet again, it’s hard to get his points up since he’s an outfielder. Marcello Ozuna has been overlooked so much, but his avg this year been a lot better than his past, being .302
This coming MLB season is going to be one many are waiting for, with new prospects coming in and excited to see how players are as of the last time we saw them.
