On February 14, 2025, the student council hosted a spur-of-the-moment class competition that was Valentine’s Day themed. There were other fun events earlier in the year, such as Powder Puff and a Christmas-Themed Class Competition. Class Competitions is when the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors compete against each other in a series of challenging activities.
The week of the competition was a spirit week, which can increase each grade’s points if students participate. Monday was “Lovebirds vs. Heartbreakers,” where the “lovebirds” dress in red and the “heartbreakers” dress in black. Tuesday was “Be Someone’s Salt to Their Pepper.” This was when pairs wore matching or corresponding outfits. Wednesday was “Dress as Your Type.” Thursday was “Cupid’s Day,” where students wore pinks, reds, and hearts. Finally, Friday was “Wear Class Colors.” Because it was the day of the competition, students were supposed to wear their class color: Freshmen wore red, Sophomores wore green, Juniors wore yellow, and Seniors wore blue.
Winning activities can also help your grade gain points. The activities for this competition were Knock-Out, Hanging Donuts, Tug of War, Three-legged Race, Cup Stacking, Musical Chairs, and a Scavenger Hunt.
The most anticipated categories were Knock-Out, Hanging-Donuts, and Tug of War. In the Knock-Out activity, the boys that signed up from each grade lined up on one side of the gym, while the girls lined up on the other. Knock-Out is a basketball game where the objective is to score a basket before the person behind you can. If the person behind you makes it in before you, you are out. The Juniors won this event!
The Hanging-Donuts challenge had the audience on the edge of their seats as the students struggled to eat the donut off of the string. The goal of this challenge is to be the first to fully eat a donut that is hanging off of a string without using your hands. First, the girls went, with the boys following soon after, the Sophomores winning both times.
Lastly, the Tug of War competition took place. The grades went against each other in intense rounds of Tug of War. Ultimately, the Seniors won. At the end of the competition, the official podium was revealed. The Freshmen were in fourth place, with the Juniors falling into third. Second place were the Sophomores, and the Seniors were victorious. Overall, the Class Competitions were very successful and there are plans to have another in the Spring.
