Marvel Rivals, a six versus six third-person shooter video game, has gained lots of fame within the last two months. With its gameplay being similar to other six vs. six games, it was already fun to many people. Additionally, with the game being based around Marvel characters, more people were brought in, as there hadn’t been a game like this before with a Marvel theme. So, with all of these new fans, the game was off to a good start. However, hundreds of thousands of people still play the game. The only question to be asked is “why?”
One of the main reasons why so many people still play this game is due to the gameplay. The gameplay in Marvel Rivals is very smooth with very little bugs and glitches. The gameplay is also fun due to the many different characters you can pick. All of the characters in the game play differently, making you adjust your play style to fit said character. This allows people to play the game for long amounts of time without getting bored due to the many unique characters. Not only this, but the game’s similar style to other six v. six games, like Overwatch, brought in many fans from those games.
But the fans from those games didn’t go to Marvel Rivals just because of the gameplay being similar. The fans mainly switched to Marvel Rivals due to the game being based around the Marvel franchise. To elucidate, NetEase, the company who created Marvel Rivals, decided to add many famous Marvel characters to their game, like Hulk, Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, etc. Not only this, but they also added some lesser-known characters, like Luna Snow and Jeff The Land Shark. The many different Marvel characters in the game, ranging from famous to more obscure characters, brought together many Marvel fans. These fans varied from comic fans to casual fans that have usually only seen a couple Marvel movies.
The game has shown to still be incredibly popular throughout the first seasons of the game. For example, Marvel Rivals peaks at around 350,000 players everyday, usually getting even more players. Compared to the game Marvel Rivals is most similar to, Overwatch 2, which only gets around 28,000 players everyday, it is obvious that Marvel Rivals is, and will be, incredibly relevant for a long time.
