The bird flu H5N1 has been spotted in penguins for the first time. Two dead penguins were found on Sea Lion Island, and over 200 chicks have been reported to be dying or dead. This is a problem because penguins breed in big colonies, so if one penguin is infected, the rest could also be infected. Something similar happened in Chile last year, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand penguins. Before the penguins died, they did show symptoms of them being sick, so other penguin species nearby are being tested for the virus.
