The NFL regular season is officially over. The postseason is the beginning of the off season for some teams. For the team that made the playoffs, it is a new beginning in a tournament to win it all. It is the most exciting time of the year for the teams in the playoffs. You win and you go on, you lose; you’re out. This may be an exciting time, but once you reach the offseason, anyone’s job can be on the line. New signings, people being fired, contracts being signed, and people being drafted; the transactions are unlimited.
Coaches and players alike, anyone’s job can be on the line. On the first day of the postseason, multiple coaches were fired already. Mike Vrabel, a well known Titans coach, was fired. As well, Arthur Smith, the Falcons coach, and Pete Caroll, an amazing coach for the Seahawks, were given a new job. The Seahawks no longer want Caroll as a coach but as an advisor; this was heartbreaking for the longtime coach. Several coordinators were also fired on top of these more notable releases. This is why the postseason is such an unpredictable time, because anyone, even people who were successful at their job can be fired. A champion coach, Bill Bellicheck, the patriots headcoach, was also fired. Bill won several Super Bowls for the team, but due to a lack of production for multiple years, the organization has given up on him. Like many know, football is a production business: when you don’t produce, you’ll be out of a job fast. As of now, no players have been put out of a job or signed, but time will tell. The postseason is always an exciting time, and it is just getting started.
The NFL draft standings are ready to go. Teams will begin to decide what rookies they want to sign in the draft. For rookies, this is a nerve racking time: they worked for just for this moment. Their college careers will be watched and analyzed by teams to see if they are someone the team wants on their roster. The Bears have the 1st pick in the draft, and it is anticipated that they will likely aim to sign Caleb Williams. He is the quarterback for the college USC, and he had an amazing season and shows great potential. Every team knows it, but we will see who they select. The draft is in order of teams who were the worst to the best within the first 32 picks, but this can vary depending on if teams decide to trade picks or not. For example, the Panthers do not have the 1st pick, because they traded it to the Bears. The first 10 picks for this draft will be the Bears, Commanders, Patriots, Cardinals, Chargers, Giants, Titans, Falcons, Bears again, and Jets. We don’t know now, but on draft day we will see who these teams select.
To conclude, this time of year is the most exciting for the NFL because there are so many moving parts. So many people are being relocated, and so many are staying right where they are. The exciting aspect of this, though, is the fact that no one knows where anyone is going and the anticipation slowly builds over time. People can make predictions and boards of possibilities, but no one truly knows what could happen. This is only the start of the postseason; what could happen next?
