Ryan Gosling got nominated at the Oscars for playing Ken in the Barbie movie. As happy as he was, he proceeds to say, “There is no Ken without Barbie,” showing his actual disappointment in how he won. He played his role very well, but he and fans are upset because it disregards the whole purpose of the movie.
“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” he says with gratitude; but he continues with, “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no ‘Barbie’ movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.” He is upset to have the credit from such an amazing movie with incredible actors. The movie itself is about all of the difficulties women go through, and, eventually, the men and women in it come together to make a better and equal environment. This shows a resemblance to real life, even though a lot of things still need to be changed.
Because of how well written and emotional the movie was, Ryan is disappointed in the decision because of how much effort a lot of others put into the movie: “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.” Even the cast from Oppenheimer, another impressive movie released at the same time, showed their disappointment. But hopefully this scenario, and Ryan speaking against it, will persuade people to reconsider the point of this movie.
