On January 10th, 2024, all of Manville school districts were closed due to the flooding throughout town. The night before the closing, heavy rain quickly flooded the town, and homes were affected. Manville is surrounded by water on three sides, which include The Raritan, Royce Brook, and the Millstone Rivers; this makes Manville very easy to flood, leaving negative effects after any major storm. Many roads were closed off on Wednesday due to them being underwater from the rivers. Police instructed the community to not drive and to avoid the area.
NBC New York wrote in their article about the flood, “Emergency crews are rescuing residents trapped in their homes in parts of New Jersey on Wednesday morning after heavy rains overnight caused rivers to rise to flood stage.” It is clear to say that many Manville residents were affected by the flood due to the rivers being over 10 feet by Wednesday morning. All roads except one entering and leaving Manville were closed off and backed up, making it very difficult for anyone to drive in the town. Luckily, Manville has recovered from the aftermath of the flood, and schools reopened the next day.
