Manville High School announced Trip Freitag as December’s Athlete of the Month!
Trip has been given this award for his outstanding skills during the wrestling season. When
asked how he felt about being chosen for this award he said, “It feels good to get recognition,
after winning my two previous tournaments and remaining undefeated is definitely cool. I
have to make sure to stay focused though because the season is not even close to done yet.”
Besides wrestling, Trip also runs cross country and track, and is a part of the National Honor
Society. When asked about his favorite memories from the season, he said, “Winning the
Somerset county tournament last year was a highlight; I was not supposed to even place
(being seeded 5th) at all, so it was very rewarding to win it. Spending time with the team in
general, especially going out to eat with them after the season ended last year.” Some of
Trip’s favorite memories throughout his three years spent in high school so far are his last day of
freshman year and playing basketball at the end of the year, where he and his friends would
play five on five games.
After Trip graduates from Manville High School next year, he wants to continue his
education at a big university, as well as also doing a sport of his choice. Some interesting facts
about Trip are he travels a lot in the summer, is a little bit colorblind when it comes to reds, won
the group 1 state championship last year in track for Javelin, competed in the meet of
champions, and is the wrestling Somerset Champion for two years in a row, remaining
undeafted! He also likes to go to sleep early, and is good at math. Trip would like to thank
Lucas Velando for being a good wrestling partner throughout the season.
Congratulations to Trip for being chosen for December’s Athlete of the Month!
