Tragedy today as a Japan Airlines A350-900, carrying 379 passengers,
collided with a Japanese Coast Guard cargo plane on its way to deliver
supplies to the Japanese islands involved in a recent earthquake, killing
five out of the six crew members on board. Luckily, all 379 passengers on
the Airbus A350 got out unharmed. Investigation further showed that the
Coast Guard cargo plane did not have the modern day radar system like
the A350, which is crucial to know if any aircraft are near you. This caused
the Japanese aircraft to proceed to line up on the runway early, causing the
A350 to collide with it.
While airport firefighters were doing all they could to put out the fire on the
A350, it just snapped in half, causing more flames to rise out of the aircraft.
This was the very first crash the A350 has seen since being built back
in late 2011, being known as the most technologically advanced aircraft
Airbus has built yet. Also, this was the first major crash Japan Airlines has
seen since early August in 1985, when a Boeing 747-800’s tail wing broke
off due to a tail strike (when the tail of the aircraft gets damaged by hitting
the ground upon landing) and poor maintenance on the aircraft.
