Why is Greece still oil drilling when it’s sending sperm whales and dolphins to
extinction in the Hellenic trench? They continued to drill because of greed and
money hunger. In Grease, the government owed another country money
and was forced to drill 72% of the ocean. The Hellenic Trench is of interest
because they believe there is oil there. The laws to protect this marine-filled zone
were ignored due to the controversy with countries supporting Grease. These
countries invited drilling companies permission to drill in the Hellenic trench. The
companies that were offered to drill for oil all have a history of oil spills and
financial scandals.

The companies plan on doing seismic surveys using air guns to blow sound waves
to hear where the oil or gas may be. Because whales and dolphins use
echolocation to move and find food, these loud explosive sound waves could
cause major health concerns. Seismic testing has been approved from the Atlantic
coast down to Florida. Government scientist Danielle Cholewiak disagrees with
these tests by saying, “It’s been pretty well documented that seismicity testing
surveys have disrupted animal behavior and animal communication.”
In relation to all this evidence, fifty sea turtles have washed up on an Israeli beach.
American broadcaster Bob Edwards says, “I just don’t know how anybody
would propose something that’s going to be endangering whales, dolphins and
turtles.” It is believed to have about 300 sperm whales in the greek
waters. Government scientist Danielle Cholewiak disagrees with these tests by

The WWF has come up with other sources of energy such as renewable energy
which is found to make more money. The WWF proposed to use solar energy.
This includes Solar panels and solar boats. The WWF has also made efforts to
spread charcoal stoves to save trees. Also, e-billing is another way to save paper.
The WWF ́s main motivation is the fact that the world is consuming more natural
resources than the world can replenish. To conclude everything stated, the WWF
is still actively trying to protect the environment and marine life because there is a
lot of negligence in between the scenes.
