Some people thought of it to be egoistic and self-centered, but Timothee Chalamet’s speech for being an award winning actor really brought him into the spotlight, allowing him to be one step closer to, as he stated, being “one of the greats.”
The SAG, also known as Screen Actors Guild awards, is when an award is given to an actor/actress to recognize their performances in a following film. This year, the awards took place in the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
Timothee Chalamet participated in the nomination ceremony for “Male Actor in a Leading Role.” Other contestants included Adrien Brody in The Brutalist, Colman Domingo in Sing Sing, Daniel Craig in Queer and Ralph Fiennes in Conclave. Not only did Timothee’s win for A Complete Unknown allow him to make a personal achievement in having his first ever acting award, but this also made him the youngest person to ever win the Male Actor in a Leading Role award!
An article stated that Timothee’s special speech spoke the truth of what he believed to be the future of his acting career.
“I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is, this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero, and it was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”
“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats,” he said.
Because of his unwavering language, people began to hate on Timothee’s speech. Some would say it was too straightforward and cocky, while others stated his gratitude and boldness is what makes the speech so him. Personally, Timothee’s speech was very well put together and shows his excitement for his future and how much the trophy/award really means to him.
Timothee Chalamet’s refreshing speech perfectly pointed out how much the SAG awards have caused him to pursue greatness, how much it truly meant to him, and how thrilled he was to continue his acting career.
