Gypsy rose was officially released from prison on December 28; it was all the internet was talking about. It all started the day she was born. Ever since Gypsy was a newborn, her mother, Clauddine Blanchard, forced her daughter to pretend to be seriously ill and to endure unnecessary medical procedures, forcingher to use a wheelchair and feeding tube. Through social media, it was believed Clauddine Blanchard hada psychological disorder: Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This is where a parent exaggerates their child’smedical conditions. Clauddine was using Gypsy for things like charities, fundraisers and awards. Gypsywas honored as the child of the year in 2007 by the Oley Foundation, which fought for the rights offeeding-tube recipients, and, in 2007, a pink house was built by Habitat for Humanity for the Blanchardfamily after their home in Louisiana was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Clauddine convinced dozens of doctors her daughter had epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, leukemia, intellectual disabilities and more. Gypsy even states that doctors removed “two Salivary glands behind [her]neck.” Because of this, it’s hard for gypsy to talk, eat, and swallow. Behind closed doors she was a prisoner, not being able to live a normal life, until she met Nicholas Godejohn, who was living in Big Bend,Wisconsin. He met Gypsy on a website for Christian singles in October 2012. Nicholas and Gypsywere dating long distance at the time and exchanged hundreds of text messages. While secretly chatting,Gypsy talked to Nick about her problems at home with her mom; they both set up a plan to eventuallyend her life.
Gypsy set Nicolas up with duct tape, gloves, and a knife with intention to use it on Dee Dee. Gypsy-Rosehid in the bathroom so she wouldn’t hear her mother screaming. Nicholas then stabbed Dee Dee 17 timesin the back while she was asleep. The couple planned on running away back to Nicholas’ home inWisconsin. On June 14, Gypsy published a facebook post from Dee Dee Blanchard’s page that said, “ThatB***h is dead!” So many of Dee Dee’s friends and followers assumed her account was hacked. Not longafter the facebook post was published, Gypsy-Rose was sentenced to 8 years in prison while NicholasGodejohn was sentenced to life in prison.
After serving 8 years, Gypsy-Rose is now a free woman. Gypsy lives a completely normal life throughsocial media, showing how happy she is with her new husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, who she met whileshe was still in prison. Since her release, Gypsy has rapidly gained attention on social media. She gainedover 4.7 million followers on Instagram.
