Franchessca Votteler

Did you think royalty was no longer prevalent? Well the MHS homecoming court will change your mind. October 8, 2021, was an exciting day here at Manville High School. It was the day of the homecoming assembly.

This year, the homecoming court included six senior boys and girls. The girls were: Franchessca Votteler, Kate Sanders, Melanie Alcantara, Victoria Dzuba, Chloe Gosk, and Athena Drake. Our boy nominees were Justin Bamgboye, David Peterson, Todd Peterson, Nicholas Imerlishvili, Anthony Yakobchuk, and Colin Weber. MHS student council worked hard to set up the auditorium, which included the iconic balloon arch. The students were bustling when they had heard the good news; it was the first time there would be an assembly since 2019. Half of the student body at Manville High School had never experienced the homecoming tradition. Due to covid safety and restrictions, the assembly was limited to only seniors being allowed to attend this year. However, the underclassmen have nothing to worry about. The assembly was recorded and there is a special homecoming video being made so voters can get to know all the nominees personally. It is set to be released the week of October 11th, 2021 so students have time to vote.

The homecoming assembly began with an introduction by the speakers. The speakers for the homecoming assembly were seniors Anna Kontos and Siobhan Wesolowski. The lights were bright, and beaming on the stage. The nominees waited anxiously with their escorts for their cue to begin going in. Anna and Siobhan alternated reading each nominee’s short biography, which included their various academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Each nominee walked across the auditorium with their escort and made their way up to the stage. They each took a brief pause at the arch for a picture and made their way to their respective seats. Here at MHS, we are all extremely grateful that life is gradually going back to normalcy and we should make the best of it. Make sure to cast your vote for homecoming king and queen the week of October 11. On Friday, October 15, 2021, the homecoming ceremony will take place during halftime on the field at our homecoming football game, in which our king and queen will be announced.
