New York City’s 87th Rockefeller Christmas Tree

New York Citys 87th Rockefeller Christmas Tree

Michelle Romero

The 87th annual Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting ceremony was on Wednesday, December 4th at the Rockefeller Plaza. The Christmas tree will stay on display until January 17, 2020. This year marks the thirteenth year that the tree is being donated to Habitat for Humanity, and they plan to use the tree for future projects. Once the tree comes down, it’s milled, treated and made into lumber that is used for building homes. Each year, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree continues to be a symbol of hope; it has even inspired the children’s book, “The Carpenter’s Gift,” written by David Rubel and illustrated by Jim LaMarche in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity. Now, more than half a million people visit the tree each year. Thanks to Habitat For Humanity, Rockefeller Center will have a beautiful Christmas tree on display for yet another year and many more to come.
